Favourites Of The Month! (Part One [January 2014])

Hello again!

I've been a little lacking on the blog front this month, I've been fairly busy since I got back to Canada and I've also been sick! (boo) I thought I would try to get back into the swing of things by doing my monthly (or not so monthly) favourites! I decided not to do a favourites last month, mainly because I wasn't home and I wanted to enjoy my time with my family while I could and also because I was living out of a suitcase, so I couldn't take everything I may have wanted in a favourites post. Let's get to it!

As usual part one of the list:
  • Song
  • TV Show
  • Food or Snack
  • Makeup
  • Perfume
  • Body
  • Hair
  • Nail Polish
  • Shoes
Song

I had the opportunity to listen to some new (new to me at least) music while I was visiting home and spending time with my sister! (We have some similar tastes in music and then some way out there differences ha ha!) I've been loving a couple songs that she listens to, so much so that I had her make me a mix CD before I left so I could put the songs on my iPod when I eventually made it back home!  Some of the songs I can't seem to get enough of right now are:
  • Ready Or Not: Bridgit Mendler
  • Wasting All These Tears: Cassadee Pope
  • I Wish I Could Break Your Heart: Cassadee Pope
  • I Want Crazy: Hunter Hayes
  • Wanted: Hunter Hayes
  • Sweet Serendipity: Lee DeWyze
  • Mine Would Be You: Blake Shelton
TV Show

I haven't really been watching anything new lately.. I have however been watching a crazy amount of South Park recently ha ha! I seriously LOVE South Park and I think it gets better with every season! My favourite characters are: Randy, Stan, Butters, and Kenny.. I can watch and re-watch this show and it never gets old! I really need to catch up on the newest season, I've only seen a couple episodes.. (Boo)

Food or Snack

My favourite snack item as of late has been Triscuit Crackers... Which is a little unusual for me, because I never used to like Triscuits... I found them to be really plain and VERY dry.. Then I tried the New Brown Rice flavoured ones and they are DELICIOUS! I'm loving the Tomato and Basil ones and I think I'm going to be trying some of the other flavours out there ha ha!

Makeup

I only have 5 makeup favourites this time around (I recall in my last favourites I had quite a few!) 4 out of 5 of these items are completely new to me and I'm really glad I picked them up, because I am absolutely LOVING them!
  • Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream in Fair to Light
  • L'Oreal True Match in C1 Alabaster
  • Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser
  • Victoria's Secret Epic Lash Mascara in Blacktastic
  • L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara in Blackest Black
Ok, first up is the foundation and BB cream! I already loved the L'oreal True Match foundation, but realized that the one I originally had was the wrong shade for me... (Usually I don't have a problem picking a shade because truth be told I'm white as paper so I usually need the lightest shade anyway ha ha) I picked the wrong type, I have pink undertones so I need a cool foundation, I had originally picked the warm foundation... I guess it's a learning process! Considering I knew next to nothing about makeup let alone undertones and types of foundation about a year ago... Anyway I love this foundation, it's got great full coverage, SPF 17, it's oil free and non greasy and I can wear it all day with no touch ups needed. (that being said I also have super dry skin, so if you have oily/combination skin you'll more than likely need to touch up during the day.) I wanted to try the Olay BB Cream for a while now and I got the chance to try it out when I was visiting my sister. I noticed she had it, so I tried it out one day and I was pleasantly surprised! This BB Cream or Tinted Moisturizer is quite refreshing, it smooths my skin out really nicely, it blends really well and it matches my skin perfectly! I also really love the scent, which is odd for me because I usually prefer to have unscented products if I'm putting them on my face. I loved wearing this with just mascara for a fresh face look. (Needless to say, I HAD to buy it for myself!)

I can't remember where I first heard about the Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser, but ever since then I knew I NEEDED to have it! I don't know if it's available in Canada yet, I found mine at a Walgreens while I was in California. I paid $6.99 USD for it and I wish I bought two! This primer/pore eraser is pretty awesome! I use it where my pores are most prominent which for me is on and around my nose. You only need the smallest amount and it makes my skin feel so smooth and even and my foundation glides right on and looks fabulous! I feel like this does a great job at minimizing and blurring my pores, but I wouldn't say it erases them.. It definitely makes a difference and for the price I felt like I couldn't go wrong!

Last up are 2 mascaras I have been loving and pairing together! I bought the Victoria's Secret Epic Lash Mascara on a whim, because I had a gift card I got for Christmas that I wanted to use up.. I'm really glad I bought it, This mascara makes my lashes so full and long I love it! It's not waterproof, (which I prefer these days) but it also doesn't smudge or flake off during the day. It doesn't clump, however my only problem is the amount of product that comes out on the wand... If I don't brush off the excess it can get on my lids, which is a pain especially if I'm wearing eyeshadow... Other than that, I really love and recommend this mascara! The Voluminous Millions Mascara is another product my sister had and recommended to me (I didn't try hers for obvious health/sanitary reasons, I love my sister to bits but I don't share my eye makeup aside from eyeshadow with anyone...) and I'm glad she did because this mascara is pretty wonderful! I love that the wand is a rubber material rather than plastic, so it makes it very flexible and easier to wiggle into the base of my lashes to really coat them and get as much volume as possible. This mascara is also not waterproof but it does a fantastic job at staying on all day and not smearing or flaking off and I also haven't had any problems with clumping.

Perfume/Body

I don't have a body item this time around aside from my two favourite perfumes of the month, so I just put the two categories together. First is Wild Rose by Avril Lavigne; and this is not a new favourite for me, but I repurchased this fragrance while I was back in California so I've been wearing it a lot more recently. I purchased this fragrance when it first came out a few years ago, and have loved it since! It's a combination of sweet, floral and a little fruity. Most would probably say that this scent is better for daytime, but I wear it day and night. My other perfume favourite of the month is Meow by Katy Perry. I've wanted this perfume since it came out (it came out around the same time as Wild Rose, but when I purchased Wild Rose I got Purr instead) and I just haven't picked it up since... I was going to buy it while I was in California, but decided not to and I'm glad I decided against it, because my hubby bought it for me for Christmas! (Although I didn't get to open it until January) This perfume is very sweet and again probably better for day time, but I don't change my scent up like that, I'll pick what I want to wear and wear that for the entire day. Aside from the light and sweet scents, what drew me in was the packaging! I love the bottles these perfumes come in, and I plan to keep the bottles long after the fragrance is gone.

Hair

I have three hair favourites this month and I feel like I should probably do and updated hair care post, because I've changed some things up recently. I went to get my hair cut while I was back home (at the Paul Mitchell School East Bay) and I applaud the guy (I believe his name was AJ) who had to tame my hair, because that is no small feat especially with how long it is! I have fine hair, so it's a tangled nightmare when its dry and forget about trying to get a comb through it while its wet... He tried his best and did an amazing job none the less! Which brings me to my first product, he used a detangling spray on my hair and it did such a good job on my wet hair that I HAD to buy it! It was about $13 USD I think? It was definitely worth EVERY penny! I use it almost everyday and it makes brushing my hair out a million times easier! The only downfall for me is the scent... To me it smells like solarcaine... (I'm sure my fair complexioned beauties know what that is; and to those who don't, its a pain relieving spray used for sunburns..) That doesn't outweigh the fact that this product works AMAZINGLY! Next is an item from the Organix line and it's the Nourishing Coconut Oil Weightless Hydrating Oil Mist. It's like a dry oil that you can use on damp hair or dry hair, and I have only used it on my dry hair, because I'm still using and LOVING my Coconut Milk Serum. This oil tames the fly aways, helps with the frizz, and leaves my hair feeling silky and soft and it also adds some shine. I only use this in the lengths and ends of my hair, because it's an oil and my roots definitely don't need that. Last but not least is a dry shampoo! I have tried a variety of dry shampoos and none of them ever did a thing for my hair, until now! I've heard people rave about how wonderful Batiste is, and I haven't really seen it around here. I decided to try it out while I was back home, but I didn't want to invest in the big can if it was going to be another flop. I picked up the travel sized can in Clean and Classic which I believe is the original formula. Long story short, it WORKS! and not just on second day hair either, I used this on my hair when it was fairly oily and my hair looked so shiny and lightweight! The scent isn't the best, but again that's not a deal breaker for me because it actually works! (I'm going to have to search around for a full sized can!)

Nail Polish

I have three nail polish favourites, one I got in an Ipsy bag a while back and the other two I got in California.
  • Zoya in Neve (A very pretty dark blue polish with some shimmer)
  • Sinful Colors in Daredevil (A very bright neon pink with some shimmer)
  • Sinful Colors in Cinderella (A beautiful powder blue with glitter)
Shoes

I was able to wear something other than my Uggs while I was in California, which I LOVED! It was so beautiful over there everyday and hardly cold at all. I wore my 2 favourite pairs of flats mostly. One is black with a bow and the other are a black with grey and silver glitter all over. I can't wait for spring so I can wear some other shoes! (ha ha)

That's all for part one lovelies!
Stay tuned for part two!

xoxoxo
